Middlefield Orchard returns to Bassett Medical Center for the Farmer’s Market for the 2025 season. Fruits and vegetables freshly picked from the farm are available for purchase from 10am to 2pm on the last Thursday of the month June through October at a location convenient to Cooperstown hospital employees, patients, and community members.

In spite of living in rural communities surrounded by farmland, 26.3% of adults in our region report consuming no fruits or vegetables daily (2018 NYS BRFSS). Furthermore, obesity rates and associated chronic disease rates continue to rise. RHENSOM’s goal is to connect people with the foods they need to consume to prevent and manage chronic conditions, and support our local economy. Our current work plan supports the NYS Prevention Agenda Focus Areas: Healthy Eating and Food Security; and Preventive Care and Management.

To further support consumption of fruits and vegetables, representatives from two community programs and two hospital departments will be at the farmer’s markets: Office for the Aging (July 31), Cornell Cooperative Extension (August 28), Bassett’s Stroke Coordinator (September 25), and Bassett’s Research Coordinator and Liaison with Bassett Cancer Institute and University of Rochester’s Wilmot Cancer Center (October 30).
